OKALUX

Diffused daylight, deep into the room. No glare, no shadows, no moving parts.

Capillary slabs sealed inside the IGU cavity scatter incoming daylight uniformly across the room. Five build variants tune solar control, insulation, and panel size to project requirements. All hermetically sealed, permanent, and maintenance-free.

Light scattered, not blocked.

OKALUX is a hollow capillary slab encapsulated between two panes of insulating glass. The capillaries (extruded clear plastic tubes a few millimeters in diameter) are bonded into a slab the thickness of the glazing cavity. A glass fiber tissue layer in front of the capillaries diffuses incoming light uniformly. Direct sun, side-light, and overcast sky all become even, glare-free daylight inside the room.

What it is

Capillary slab, not coating

OKALUX delivers diffused daylight through physical structure, not a printed or applied coating. A slab of fine plastic tubes plus a glass fiber tissue layer scatters incoming light uniformly. Views out are obscured (the surface reads as a luminous milky-white). Light transmission stays high and color-neutral.

Why the tissue layer

Glass fiber tissue tunes performance

The glass fiber tissue is what distinguishes OKALUX from KAPILUX. The tissue diffuses light, blocks UV, and tunes solar heat gain. Different tissue specifications produce SHGC values from 0.43 down to 0.14. Without the tissue (KAPILUX), partial through-vision is preserved at the cost of solar performance.

Sealed inside the IGU

Permanent, maintenance-free

The capillary slab and tissue sit inside the hermetically sealed cavity. No exterior shading device, no moving parts, no cleaning access required. The building face remains a single flush plane, with the daylighting performance built invisibly into the glass.

Five variants. Pick by performance and frame.

OKALUX vision glazing comes in four build variants. They share the same capillary-and-tissue core but differ in cavity depth, overall thickness, max dimensions, SHGC range, and U-value. Reference values below; project-specific values depend on glass build-up, cavity dimension, and coating selection. Final specs confirmed on request.

Variant
Description
Best for
·Okalux
Standard capillary daylighting in a 1" overall buildup. The default choice for daylighting walls, clerestories, atria, and translucent skylights. Fits standard framing systems without modification.
Standard wall thickness, large dimensions up to 48" × 157" jumbo. Education, civic, healthcare, and commercial daylighting where solar heat gain is moderate.
+Okalux Plus 26
26mm overall buildup with enhanced glass fiber tissue. Lower SHGC than base for solar-loaded elevations. Smaller max dimension (40" × 90"), narrower form factor.
South and west elevations with high solar load. Smaller-format glazing where the standard 1" thickness is preferred but additional solar control is required.
+Okalux Plus
30mm overall (1 3/16") buildup with enhanced glass fiber tissue. Same solar control as Plus 26 in a curtainwall-thickness format with larger dimensions (up to 48" × 157" jumbo).
Curtainwall and storefront systems where the additional thickness is acceptable. South-facing elevations on larger buildings. Same solar control as Plus 26 at scale.
ROkalux R
30mm overall buildup with the same envelope as Plus, formulated for specific spectral and aesthetic requirements. Available in the North American market.
Projects with specific spectral or aesthetic requirements where the standard Plus formulation is not the best match. Specify with R. Suare for spec sheet.
HOkalux HPI
Opaque high-performance insulating glass, not vision glazing. Same capillary technology configured for thermal performance. R-33 at 2" overall to R-50 at 2.5" overall. Eliminates aluminum back-pans and rock wool, saving up to 4" of building depth.
Spandrel zones and opaque areas where you would otherwise specify spandrel glass with back-pan and rock wool. Use the four vision variants above when you need daylight transmission.

Reference values from OKALUX published data. Project-specific performance varies by glass build-up, cavity dimension, and coating selection.

OKALUX HPI. Spandrel replacement, not vision glazing.

OKALUX HPI is the same capillary-glazing technology configured for opaque, high-performance thermal insulation. Specified where spandrel panels would otherwise be. R-values from R-33 to R-50 in 2" to 2.5" overall. Eliminates the need for aluminum back-pans and rock wool insulation behind spandrel glass, freeing up to 4" of building depth.

Engineered for performance.

01
Capillary construction
Fine hollow plastic tubes bonded into a rigid slab, hermetically sealed inside the insulating glass cavity. The capillary structure scatters incoming daylight in all directions, eliminating glare and hot spots without reducing overall light transmission.
02
UV-blocking glass fiber tissue
The glass fiber tissue layer in front of the capillaries blocks ultraviolet radiation and tunes SHGC independently of the capillary depth. Different tissue specifications produce SHGC values from 0.43 (base) down to 0.14 (higher-performance variants). UV protection is permanent.
03
Bird-safe glazing
The capillary slab and tissue layer are visible to birds as an opaque, patterned surface. OKALUX vision glazing meets bird-safe requirements under LEED Pilot Credit 55 and applicable municipal bird-friendly building ordinances without additional film or frit.
04
Sustainable, recyclable
All components are fully recyclable. The system reduces reliance on artificial lighting and mechanical cooling, lowering building energy loads over its service life. No coatings degrade over time. Performance on day one equals performance after 20 years installed.

Five variants. Every daylighting condition.

OKALUX is specified across building types where even, glare-free daylight matters: museums, schools, sports halls, healthcare, civic, residential. The right variant depends on solar load, framing system, and dimensional requirements.

01

Sports halls and gymnasia

Large clear-span roofs and high sidewalls demand glare-free, shadow-free daylight that does not interfere with ball sports. OKALUX provides uniform diffuse illumination from ceiling and clerestory positions, with no visible bright spots or direct solar penetration even in summer.

OKALUX OKALUX PLUS

02

Schools and universities

Classrooms and lecture halls require glare-free daylight at desk and screen level. OKALUX delivers even illuminance without blinds, reducing energy consumption while maintaining a comfortable visual environment. The Plus variants add solar control for south-facing elevations.
